By continuing to hawk "The Secret," a mishmash of offensive self-help cliches, Oprah Winfrey is squandering her goodwill and influence, and preaching to the world that mammon is queen.By Peter Birkenhead March 5, 2007 | Steve Martin used to do a routine that went like this: "You too can be a millionaire! It's easy: First, get a million dollars. Now..." If you put that routine between hard covers, you'd have "The Secret," the self-help manifesto and bottle of minty-fresh snake oil currently topping the bestseller lists. "The Secret" espouses a "philosophy" patched together by an Australian talk-show producer named Rhonda Byrne. Though "The Secret" unabashedly appropriates and mishmashes familiar self-help clichés, it was still the subject of two recent episodes of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" featuring a dream team of self-help gurus, all of whom contributed to the project

 
The main idea of "The Secret" is that people need only visualize what they want in order to get it -- and the book certainly has created instant wealth, at least for Rhonda Byrne and her partners-in-con. And the marketing idea behind it -- the enlisting of that dream team, in what is essentially a massive, cross-promotional pyramid scheme -- is brilliant. But what really makes "The Secret" more than a variation on an old theme is the involvement of Oprah Winfrey, who lends the whole enterprise more prestige, and, because of that prestige, more venality, than any previous self-help scam. Oprah hasn't just endorsed "The Secret"; she's championed it, put herself at the apex of its pyramid, and helped create a symbiotic economy of New Age quacks that almost puts OPEC to shame.

Oprah blatantly states her viewpoints and opinions. Nothing is hidden or kept secret.'

Only issue is, they ain't giving the whole secret, lol! They really aren't holistic with it, as most people can't just visualize a couple of minutes a day in their current slave mentality and expect things to manifest. How you going to change your reality when you have T.V., radio, chemical attack through food, blocked chakras, etc bombarding that ass all day long. Secret is a good start though, or maybe the whole Kybalion.

Out of many that read the book, I wonder how many are in control of their reality as of now?

Good points! "The Secret" should have been 3-6 set DVD series.

You have to give it to em' on the marketing though! They did come up!

Lately I've been studying the Laws of the Universe (The Law of Attraction being ONLY ONE of them).  Folks just want to use the Law to manifest financial and material comforts ONLY.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy those things too, and I am attracting more of an abundance of those things into my life.  However there is more to life than this.

Folks should also be attracting abundant health and well being, spiritual growth, consciousness, the knowledge and manifestation of higher life purpose, joy, happiness, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, energy, enlightment, nurturing and fulfilling relationships, etc.

Co-sign.  Most people are only focus on imo frivolous things that although improve life by having them, doesn't provide things money can't buy.  Having an abundance of value given money, material things(demon of crown chakra), women(seeing them as sex objects), and sweatshop labor clothes sold here for more $$$ doesn't balance chakras, doesn't give health and almost everything lovinglife mentioned.  People only operate on a very physica,l lower level, quid pro quo type system whereas these so called "new age" should produce spontaneous results within minutes of applying.

Hmm haven't looked at that, I stay tellin my brother to leave the lottery alone and just focus on what you like and "THINK" how you can use that to gain an abundance of wealth via money, riches, and tools needed to better your life.  I don't agree with the quick luck money as that don't help someone understand the dynamics of money nevertheless the man's law pertaining to its use.  You could win X amount of money and then do something dumb and get sued and lose most or all of the money because you still are ignorant, just a rich ignoramus.
