David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation center for sex addiction, his lawyer, Stanton "Larry" Stein, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction," the actor says in an exclusive statement. "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

Duchovny, 48, has been married to actress Téa Leoni since 1997. They have two children, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd, 6.

Translation:   Dude probably got caught cheating and had to pull the sex addict card LOL

How do you treat sex addiction? I'm sure Big Pharma has developed and patented
a drug specifically for this...so now all the cheating spouses have a medically supported
excuse.

And why is it always men that have this addiction?  ( I seem to recall a couple of other
cats that used this "get-out-of-jail-free" card...I wonder how the men in these relationships
would respond if the tables were turned?

Disclaimer: The above statements are mere speculation. Addiction of any nature can be a
beast and destroy lives and relationships

I don't think he was an addict, and he refuted the claims himself. http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2008/09/11/halle_berry_s_ex_i_wasn_t_a_sex_addict_ He was just a good ol' fashioned philanderer. lol

My theory is that Halle came up with the 'addiction' story to save face, and he went along with the plan. JMO
