Question about the "god" title..

Okay I was having a convo with my girl and she asked me "how do I feel about god?" and I said I can't really answer it and she said "how do you feel about him?". I then said how can you be sure God(a title) is a human male, and then I said there are hundreds of gods and when you or other people say 'AMEN" i doubt anyone knows their saying the hidden one in reality. The question I have is how do you know the God you believe in is any better or is the absolute name for the highest force in the universe(which is my opinion)? What makes YHWH or Jehovah or allah and where do these names come from? And whats with the word "pagan" being thrown around with anything egyptian related?
