Their are many genuine and caring fathers who have their children in their care for a majority of the time, but still pay child support to the mother, for she is "residential parent" for academic purposes.  The courts award child support orders to mothers based on the theory that one parent has to provide residence for the child so the child can attend public school in that district, therefore, the noncustodial or nonresidential parent (usually dad)  has to pay support to the custodial and/or resesidential (usually mom) to cover some of her residential shelter expenses.   This is unfair to the dad in a circumstance wherein he desires to be there for his child as much as possible, but he still has court ordered support to pay to mom for her shelter expenses.  What can caring fathers do to reverse or equalize the financial responsibilities, given the caring father has the child an equal or greater amount of time and provides food clothing and shelter for the child when in his care

In California, Los Angeles County to be exact, child support is based upon child necessities moreso than residency for academic purposes.

The Child Support System is very detrimental to Black people. It is a weapon moreso that a tool of assisatnce. It oppresses the Black male under the guise of helping and protecting the Black woman/mother and child.

The CSS wouldn't or couldn't exist if people were not egotistical, immature, irresponsible and unaware. If folks could handle their business and do what's right there would not be a need to bring the State (third party) into the matter as BIG BOSS to run things.

It's amazing how a court order can order someone, a human being, to do something. Personally, I have a problem with that. I would never let a court order me to do something that I was not at peace with in my heart. NEVER!

Thank you for your response.  We reside in Missouri.  Noncustodial or nonresidential parents are not given a choice rather or not to pay child support, the support is deducted directly from the man's wages.  They will intercept tax refunds, imprison the man, garnish wages.  In Missouri, child support orders are theoretically based on the child's necessities, but the courts award the "residential" status based on the school district and the presumption that the custodial/residential parent will incur more of the child's care expenses.  My situation is pending and still being negotiated in court and through attourneys, but my friend's has had child support deducted from his wages for years, while caring for his child and equal or greater amount of time.
