Dangerous Antidepressants that Cause
The list of antidepressants that can cause sudden death is growing exponentially, with citalopram - under the brand names Celexa and Cipramil - the latest such drug to be added, according to a new study.
The research, published recently in the British Medical Journal, revealed that the drug tends to cause a lengthening of the Q-T interval, a part of the cycle of heart beat measured by an electrocardiogram, or what is more commonly known as an EKG or ECG. Indeed, a number of drugs are known for creating this phenomenon, the most notable among them being methadone, which has been documented as causing sudden death in some patients, especially when dosages are increased too rapidly.
"There are no symptoms indicating a risk. A perfectly normal person will literally drop dead," writes Heidi Stevenson at GaiaHealth.com.

The heartbeat is regulated by a series of electrical pulses, and key points of the pattern printed on an EKG are labeled P, Q, R, S, T. Potatoes and other white vegetables are just as important to a healthy diet as their colorful cousins in the produce aisle, according to the authors of a new scientific report.
Although green, red and orange veggies are often promoted as top nutrient sources, white vegetables are nutrient powerhouses in their own right and deserve a place on your plate say the scientists who produced the special supplement entitled ‘White Vegetables: A Forgotten Source of Nutrients’ in the journal Advances in Nutrition.
“It’s recommended that the variety of fruits and vegetables consumed daily should include dark green and orange vegetables, but no such recommendation exists for white vegetables, even though they are rich in fiber, potassium and magnesium,” says the supplement’s editor Connie Weaver, PhD, distinguished professor of nutrition science at Purdue University.

Are You Living in a Pesticide Hot Spot?
New pesticide data maps show concerning trends that could impact your community's health.
You take special care to avoid pesticides in your food. You never use chemical bug killers, and you even grow some of your food in an organic garden. Surprisingly, you still might not be living a pesticide-free life. A new tool can help you figure it out. First-of-its-kind pesticide use statistics from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) ID pesticide trends—and break down which communities are inundated with hundreds of pesticides.
These national maps and trend graphs show the distribution of farm use for 459 pesticides for each year from 1992 to 2007 in the U.S. It even shows which crops are receiving the pesticides. Before the releases of these maps, the data was spottier. The purpose of the maps is to help researchers better study how these pesticides are damaging the soil, air, and water on a larger scale and to figure out how the chemicals are affecting human and environmental health.
"These data enable national analysis of the full range of pesticides in agricultural use, and the annual estimates allow improved explanation of pesticide concentration trends in streams and rivers," says study coauthor Wesley Stone, scientist at the USGS Indiana Water Science Center.
