Endometriosis and Ovarian Cysts

Now here is a condition that affects many U.S. females in general, African-American (or Black) females in particular.
Endometriosis is a uterine disorder. It is an abnormal condition of the uterus or womb. This is what endometriosis means: Greek, endon + metra, meaning “womb” + osis, meaning “condition.”
Endometriosis is medically defined as: an abnormal gynecological condition characterized by ectopic growth and function of endometrial tissue. SOURCE: Mosby’s Medical Dictionary, 3rd edition (1990), pg. 424
Basically, the above is saying cells from the endometrium (lining of the uterus) also develop elsewhere in the abdominal cavity of the female body. This condition produces various symptoms (sensors that something is wrong) such as severe and excruciating pain in the uterus, lower back, and pelvic cavity organs before and during menstruation (monthly cleansing of the uterus via the vagina), pain during the actual menses, excessive bleeding (uterine hemorrhage) and expulsion of large clots and shreds of uterine tissue during the menses (which is nothing but clumps of hardened mucus colored with menstrual blood being eliminated), constipation (due to hardened feces that are stuck to the walls of the colon), and in some cases nausea and vomiting.
The ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel (colon), pelvic floor, urinary bladder, uterine muscaluture, peritoneum (membrane that lines the walls of the abdominal cavity) and the deep pelvic peritoneal cavity (cul-de-sac) are the common sites of growths of endometrial tissue outside of the uterine cavity
Why does the uterus shed each month? ANSWER: during the menstrual cycle, hormonal activity stimulate the endometrium to grow in preparation for possible gestation (pregnancy), in addition to causing a follicle within one of the ovaries to ripen which releases an ovum (egg). Fingerlike tissues on the fallopian tube grasp (actually catches) the egg and very tiny, hair-like cilia (like that of the intestines) inside the fallopian tube transport it toward the uterus and the lining is now spongy and adequately supplied with blood. If the ovum is not fertilized by male sperm within a 24 hour period after being released, the uterine intelligence causes the uterine lining to shed and pass through the vagina during the menstrual cycle.
